AVON — A pre-disciplinary hearing is to be held next week in regards to Avon firefighter Dennis Danczak, who was convicted of violating a temporary protection order last year.
The hearing is to include a city labor negotiator, the finance director and a member of the human resources department who will review the court case in which Danczak was found guilty of violating a temporary protection order that his estranged wife, Kara Danczak, took out against him last year.
They also will go over the results of an internal investigation conducted by the city and allow Danczak a chance to respond, Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen said.
“At this point it doesn’t seem like there’s anything in there that rises to that level (of firing Danczak),” Jensen said, adding that other disciplinary action could be taken depending on the outcome of the hearing.
In May 2014, Kara Danczak told police her husband assaulted her. Dennis Danczak was charged and Kara Danczak was issued a temporary protection order against her husband. In September, police charged Danczak with breaking the protection order after police found out he had been talking to Kara Danczak and went on a family vacation with her and their two children.
The initial domestic violence case was dismissed in November, but Dennis Danczak was found guilty the same month of violating the protection order. He was given probation and spent seven days in jail.
Last week, the Adult Probation Division suggested that his probation be terminated —something that will be discussed at a hearing Tuesday in Avon Municipal Court.
The pre-disciplinary hearing in Avon will be the first for Danczak since he joined the Avon Fire Department in June 2005. In that time, Danczak has received multiple certificates and commendations from citizens around Avon, according to his personnel file.
Employee performance evaluations from 2008 show that he has had some issues with working in a team. In a 2008 evaluation, Danczak is described as having “a bad attitude at times.”
A 2011 review stated that he had shown improvement, but “needs to continue focusing on the team concept.”
